CRYPTO EDUCATION

FPX – PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

ALCATROUT Prison runs an education service for crypto enthusiasts to understand the pitfalls and dangers of investing in Cryptocurrencies.

To receive privileges some prisoners share their knowledge to help others.

The Federal Prison XChange has produced this information to make the public aware of current crypto scams.

Stay safe out there Frens.

Overview of Crypto Dangers

Never share your Private Keys.
Never interact with suspicious links or people.
People create fake usernames to trick other unsuspecting people.
People use phishing scams to get emails, information and wallet access.
Crypto is inherently a dangerous field to operate in.
Crypto Currency Transactions are a one way process. It is like digital cash, once you’ve sent it it cannot be returned unless by the owner of the wallet where it was sent.

Types of Common Scams to avoid:

Scam Impersonators

They impersonate on X, Telegram and on Discord. They try to DM the unsuspecting. They share links, fake links and Wallet drain.

Always Check the @ name is accurate. Instead of the @LeonidasNFT with Blue tick we see hundreds of fake impersonators with no blue tick and a fake name such as: @Leonidas_NFT or @LeonidosNFT or @LeonldasNFT – When you see such scammers, report them and mute or block them from your feed.

On Discord when you join a new server it helps to go to Privacy Settings and select ‘no DM’s.’ That way, scammers that are lurking can’t DM you some fake scam.

Be suspicious of every Direct Message and every website link.

Even when following Legitimate accounts like ours, bad things could happen.

Every so often X accounts and Discord Servers get hacked into and then the hackers post a fraudulent link to an ‘airdrop’ or ‘nft sale’ – If you see some Flash announcement be especially careful. Legitimate teams often plan ahead and make announcements in advance and never flash announce.

Fake Links

Whether it is a fake ‘airdrop’ or even a fake website, scammers may say they are ‘trying to help’. Beware of all links posted anywhere. Especially beware of fake impersonators DM’ing you on social media. Always check you are on our official site at mackerelpacks.com

Even be wary of clicking links on this site, in case we have been hacked. Check that the links open at a legitimate website address.

Free Money Scams

There are scams that say send your Bitcoin and we’ll send back double. This is all a big scam. No one is going to double your Bitcoin for you. If something sounds too good to be true it often is.

Phishing

Fake emails or Links try to Fish for your private keys. They may even use your email details to gain access to online exchanges and drain your exchange account.

Exchanges and Fraudsters

We have seen many Crypto Exchanges close their doors over the years. Either because they were exploited themselves and lost most of their crypto or because they themselves were actually scamming people.

‘Not your keys not your Crypto’ is a common expression. If you hold your crypto on Exchanges and not in your private cold storage wallet you may be in for a future problem. It’s wise to keep the majority of your Bitcoin offline in a cold wallet storage.

Rug Pulls

Rug pulls are less likely on Bitcoin Runes, especially if the token has a 0 premine and large enough Max Mint Supply. Typically, on other testnet chains such as Solana and Ethereum the so-called token ‘developer’ hypes up their token and then dumps it all at once to drain the liquidity pool. They then close down their socials and disappear.
